Research indicates senior horses may be less efficient at absorbing certain nutrients and can benefit from specially formulated feeds. SENIORGLO ingredients have been specially selected and combined to provide added protein, phosphorus, natural-source vitamin E, B-complex vitamins, and vitamin C to match the needs of senior horses, those still working or retired.

Senior horses benefit with highly digestible fiber sources and are often sensitive to starches and sugars, especially corn. They also benefit to premium fatty acid, vitamin and mineral sources like HEALTHY GLO TM stabilized rice bran, Omega Flax TM ground flax seed and wheat germ meal with octacosanol.

SENIORGLO Components

SENIORGLO Horse Feed is made with a fixed formulation using uniform, premium quality ingredients for a consistent, superior product. SENIORGLO containsHEALTHY GLO TM stabilized rice bran, Soy Shine® soybean lipids, Omega Flax TM, GROSTRONG® vitamins and minerals, soybean hulls and beet pulp (highly digestible fiber sources), and other select ingredients.

HEALTHY GLOTM extruded, stabilized rice bran flax blend, contains 20% fat and high concentrations of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and 13% hypo-allergenic protein with a complete amino acid profile. HEALTHY GLO provides energy of rice oil (vegetable fat), structural carbohydrates, and non-structural carbohydrates. Since fat is 2.25 times higher in energy than carbohydrates (the major component in grains), energy intake can be maintained with HEALTHY GLO and less grain. HEALTHY GLO also provides vitamin E, B-vitamins, essential fatty acids, and essential amino acids.

Omega FlaxTM ground flax seed with Omega 3 essential fatty acids. Omega 3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids that reduce inflammation and promote membrane integrity. They must be provided in the diet. The richest plant source of Omega 3 fatty acids is flax oil.

Soy Shine® is a combination of lipids and digestible fibers of soybeans. Soy Shine is extruded for maximum digestibility.

GROSTRONG Minerals are a source of salt, electrolytes, major and trace minerals, and fat- and water-soluble vitamins which complement the forage in horse rations.

Soybean hulls and beet pulp are very digestible sources of structural carbohydrates. These fermentable fibers have the same beneficial effects as forage fibers for maintaining gut health and fluid and electrolyte balance. They also provide more energy than typical forages without producing the symptoms of grain overload.

Oats and wheat midds are highly palatable sources of structural and non-structural carbohydrates, protein and fiber. Wheat midds also contain wheat germ (see below). Dehydrated alfalfa is an excellent source of digestible fiber, calcium, and protein.

Prosponse® brewers dried yeast is included in SENIORGLO because of its ability to enhance feed palatability, digestibility, and hindgut fermentation in horses.

ZinPro 4-Plex organic and trace minerals Cu, Zn, Mn

CitriStim

Wheat Germ Meal with Octacosanol. Wheat germ is the reproductive area or embryo of which the seed germinates to form the wheat grass plant. The “germ” makes up only about 2.5% of the weight of the wheat kernel, but is the most nutritious portion.

Wheat germ is separated of the bran and starch during the milling of flour. It is rich in vitamin B complex, vitamin E, octacosanol, enzymes and minerals.

Octacosanol. Wheat germ is nature’s richest source of octacosanol, a compound reported to improve energy storage in muscles; improve oxygen utilization; enhance performance, endurance and stamina, even at high altitudes; quicken reflexes; and increase the ability to handle stress.

NO MORE CORN. SENIORGLO contains no whole corn or corn starch. SENIORGLO does contain corn germ meal, the most nutritious part of the corn that is left after the corn starch and corn oil are removed.

SENIORGLO Physical Form

Grinding and pelleting of ingredients makes them easier for horses to chew, digest, and absorb. Senior horses often have difficulty picking up and chewing feeds, which results in spilling and wasting considerable amounts of feed. SENIORGLO comes in soft, large (5/16 inch) pellets, which are easy for senior horses to pick up and chew. Horses are less likely to drop and waste large, soft pellets. If the pellets are dropped, they can be easily picked up.

SENIORGLO Palatability

Since senior horses can sometimes be finicky eaters, SENIORGLO is formulated with ingredients that older horses will readily consume. Typical sweet feeds contain 10% or more liquid molasses, which tends to make handling difficult, reduce shelf life, and form chunks during cold weather. Spilled or wasted sweet feed also attracts flies. SENIORGLO is highly palatable, without the undesirable characteristics of typical sweet feeds.

SENIORGLO Feeding Rate

Typical senior feeds contain large amounts of forage and are formulated as complete feeds fed at rates of 14 to 20 pounds per day. Unfortunately, they frequently do not meet the bulk needs of horses, and they are often fed in amounts less than the manufacturers’ recommendations. Owners mistakenly think they are helping their horses when feeding only 3 to 6 pounds of these feeds. In this situation, horses receive only 25 percent or less of their fats, vitamins and minerals. This feeding practice usually does not provide the needed nutrients, and the forage supplied via the complete feed is much more expensive.

Most senior horses can still graze and consume traditional forages, such as pasture, long-stemmed hay, and hay cubes. For these horses, it is most economical to provide their special nutrients in a concentrated form. SENIORGLO is a concentrated product that is designed to be fed at 5 to 8 pounds per 1,000 pound horse daily along with hay or pasture. Feeding 12 to 15 pounds of good-quality hay or providing pasture along with the recommended amount of SENIORGLO is simple, easy, and an economical way to meet the nutritional needs of senior horses.

For horses that cannot chew hay, try FORAGE FIRST Alfalfa Hay Cubes or FORAGE FIRST Timothy/Alfalfa Hay Cubes. These cube products are softer than hay cubes produced for cattle. They can be soaked to form a slurry, which can be easily consumed by horses with no teeth. With SENIORGLO, you have a choice of forages, and you can adjust the forage-to-concentrate ratio of your total feeding program to make it just right for your senior horse. Whether a horse is 14, 24, or 34 years old, SENIORGLO can help make his life more comfortable and productive by meeting his special nutrient needs. SENIORGLO is a component of FORAGE FIRST® Programs, the most technologically advanced feeding programs available today.

Why SENIORGLO is Perfect for Your Senior Companion

SENIORGLO is the ultimate concentrated feed for Senior Horses that allows owners to choose their forage source, change their forage-to concentrate ratio, and feed the same feed year-round. SENIORGLO is unique in the marketplace.

Senior horses are often sensitive to starch and sugar and prone to laminitis. SENIORGLO contains only about 12% NFC (an over-estimation of starches and sugars of calculation). This is less than most forages and compares very favorably to some senior feeds that actually contain 25% MOLASSES by weight.

SENIORGLO is a premium product full of the best protein, fatty acid, vitamin and mineral sources for horses.

SENIORGLO is also excellent in rations for Broodmares and Growing Horses.
